Steel support beam is usually used above the foundation and placed between the two abutments (piers) . It is usually longitudinal to prevent the abutment from moving inwards due to the thrust of the fill.

As the urban super-high-rise buildings become more and more dense, the working space of tower crane is limited, so the large-scale inner-climbing tower crane is used in the construction of super-high-rise structures. The internal climbing tower crane uses a set of steel support beam to climb up inside the building. Under the combined action of the dead weight of the Tower Crane, the lifting weight and the wind load, the internal climbing tower crane bears considerable vertical and horizontal loads, and all the load is borne by the support beam.

The steel support beam is connected to the bracket which is attached to the building structure and transmits all the load to the building. At present, there are no quality standards and relevant regulations in the current domestic codes for the connection structure of the support beam and bracket of the climbing tower crane, so the design is too conservative or unsafe. Therefore, it is very important to study and design the reliability of the supporting beam, bracket and their connecting structure of the Tower Crane.

The steel support beam is box-shaped section. To prevent the steel plate of the beam section from local instability, several transverse diaphragms are welded longitudinally along the beam axis on the inside of the beam.
